Authors' Luncheon - March
4, 2006
This year's event was held Saturday,
March 4th at the Chesapeake
Bay Beach Club in Stevensville, Maryland, and featured
Jim Lehrer, Kate Lehrer, Paul Dickson and Tom Allen.
Mr. Leherer presented his recent
book, The Franklin Affair: A Novel. Messrs. Dickson
and Allen talked about their book, The Bonus Army,
which came out last year. A documentary based on the book
aired on PBS stations this Memorial Day, May 29th.
We are most grateful to our
advertisers, donors and our authors'
luncheon committee for their dedication and hard work.
Special thanks to our participating
authors.
A benefit Authors' Luncheon
is held every March for St. Martin's Ministries. For over
23 years, the Benedictine sisters have provided services to
the poor and homeless of the five Mid-Shore counties of Maryland.
The Ministries provide financial counseling, a thrift shop/food
pantry and a residential program enabling women (with their
children) to get back on their feet, often after physical
or substance abuse.
Over the past eight years, we
have had a variety of authors including Diane Rehm, E. J.
Dionne, David Maraniss, Marlin Fitzwater, Johnny Holliday,
Neal Conan, Bob Schieffer and Walter Isaacson. Our attendance
ranges from 275 to 300, and we raise over $75,000 for this
worthy cause.
